A Weekend Getaway in Long Island 1

If you’re looking for a beautiful and relaxing weekend vacation, a quick trip to Long Island is a great way to unwind from the hustle and bustle of the city life. If you love to travel, but you don’t have the luxury of time, Long island can be easily accessed if you’re coming from New York City.

It has been my ambition to travel with my family. I see it as an opportunity to bond myself with my kid and my husband. Not only because it strengthens our relationship, but also because of my strong belief that it is an effective way of teaching my child to love the nature and precious moments.

How to Get There

There are different ways get to Long Island from New York City. You can take the train, bus or drive via any of major

roads. You can also hire a car service to take you there.

My husband and I often head out to Long Island with our 5-year-old kid for a weekend getaway, and we prefer driving our own vehicle. I find it more convenient especially since we have a child and a dog tagging along with us. Having your own car is more reliable in case of an emergency. Driving will take you just a little more than an hour to get to Long Island from New York.

Where to Stay

During our stay, we usually rent a condo because it’s more convenient for our family. There some condos for rent in Long Island so you won’t have a hard time finding a place to stay. Since my husband and I love the ocean, we always rent a condo with panoramic views of the sea.

If you travel with your dog, make sure that the condo unit you are renting allows animals in the building. I enjoy spending out time in a condo unit because it has all the amenities and comfort of our home.

Since the condo is located on the beach, we enjoy walking barefoot in the sand and playing with our dog while getting a bit of tan.

If you enjoy outdoor activities, there are a lot of stuff you can do on Long Island. We often go to the Jones Beach

State Park because it has a beautiful stretch of sand facing the Atlantic Ocean. A lot of families visit this park.

You can swim in the sea, enjoy the scenery in the boardwalk, grab a bite at the concession area, go sunbathing, ride a bicycle, and do a lot more. Whenever we visit this park, we always end up spending an entire day here.

Le Play Café

If you’re a bit tired of a whole day’s worth of activities, a trip to the Le Play Café may be just what you need. You can sit down, sip a cup of coffee and relax a bit while your husband checks his email and your little one continues having fun. This venue is a great way for children to interact and socialize with other kids. Your children can enjoy playing with musical instruments, arts and crafts, dancing and other fun he

Old Westbury Gardens

Visit the Old Westbury Gardens in Nassau County. This property was the home of John Shaffer Phipps, the famous heir to the U.S. Steel fortune and was converted into a museum. His home is open for tourists from April to October.

There are some films and TV series that were shot in this location including the Love Story and Gossip girl. If you’re a movie buff, then you will enjoy visiting this beautiful estate. This historic and grand estate covers 160 acres of land and is built with 23 rooms.
